Pediatric Nocturnal Oximetry

What is a pediatric nocturnal oximetry?

Pediatric nocturnal oximetry is a simple, painless test done at home. It can help determine whether your child may be suffering from a sleep-related respiratory disorder by detecting decreased blood oxygen levels during sleep. Test results are used by your healthcare professionnel physician to decide whether your child should undergo a more thorough examination (e.g., polysomnography).

Night saturometry (oximetry) is a sleep apnea assessment test offered exclusively to pediatric clients. This test is used to determine whether there is reduced oxygen in the blood during your child's sleep, and whether a more exhaustive diagnostic test should be recommended. Saturometry is performed at home, under your supervision. During your appointment, a sleep respiratory therapist will explain the steps for installing the sensor. The collected data is sent to a respirologist for analysis according to predefined medical criteria in order to determine the next steps.

Examination procedure

At Biron, we offer a 15-minute afternoon appointment to explain how the device works and how to properly do the in-home test. We will ensure you have all the information you need for a successful diagnostic. The test will be conducted at home, during the night. The day after the test, we ask that you return the device to Biron's clinic by 11:00 a.m.
