Oral-dental radiology

Oral-dental radiology

What is oral radiology?

Radiology is a key component of dental medicine. It provides various options for viewing the inside and outside of your mouth (e.g. teeth and roots, bone mass, jaws) and can screen for lesions and anomalies not detected by your dentist in a clinical examination:

  • Cavities between your teeth and under amalgams
  • Degree of bone loss
  • Presence of chronic infection
  • Cysts, tumors and abscesses

Oral-dental radiology also captures three-dimensional (3D) images that are very useful for planning the positioning of dental implants, or to guide your dentist when performing a root canal.
