A resting electrocardiogram is a simple test that measures the bioelectric activity of the heart. Electrodes are placed on the chest, arms and legs to take readings for about 10 minutes. It can be performed following other sampling at the service centre, if indicated on your prescription. | Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is performed with a device that the patient wears for 24 hours. The test records blood pressure and determines if treatment is necessary. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to set up the device. | This is a small, portable device that continuously records the heart rate for 24 or 48 hours during daily activities. The device takes 5 to 10 minutes to install. |
A medical prescription is required for these tests. Electrocardiograms are interpreted by a non-affiliated cardiologist. Tests with an interpretation of the results start at $75 and are not covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).
