Respiratory multiplex PCR

Is it COVID-19, influenza or something else?

In addition to detecting the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19), this molecular test rapidly identifies the presence of influenza A/B and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as well as 18 other common pathogens causing respiratory diseases. This polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test looks for the genetic material of a total of 22 viruses and bacteria (including SARS-CoV-2) in a sample of secretions from the nose (nasopharyngeal swab).

What forms do the results of the respiratory multiplex PCR take?

A positive result to SARS-CoV-2 indicates that SARS-CoV-2 RNA has been detected and that you are considered to be infected with COVID-19 and presumed to be contagious.

A positive result to another common respiratory pathogen indicates that your symptoms may be caused by that pathogen.

A negative result means that neither the genetic material of SARS-CoV-2 nor the genetic material of the other common pathogens was present in your sample. You are not infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.
