Squamous Cells

With some exceptions, squamous cells do not generally come from the urinary tract. A large number of squamous cells are found in the lower third of the urethra and mainly in vaginal secretions in women, and the presence of these cells signals contamination of the specimen. The observation of blood, leukocytes and bacteria may, therefore, be due to this contamination, making the urine sediment interpretation of little use. Depending on the circumstances, the sample should be taken again with greater control over the specimen collection.
