Prostate biopsy
A prostate biopsy may be recommended by your doctor when laboratory test results (e.g. prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, levels) suggest the presence of prostate cancer.
This procedure involves removing samples of suspicious tissue from the prostate gland. Using a needle, the urologist collects a specific number of samples that will then be analyzed by a pathologist in an effort to detect signs of cancer.
