Hemoptysis

Hemoptysis is the presence of fresh blood in secretions coming from the respiratory tract (coughing, spitting). Light hemoptysis most often results from a mild infection of the bronchi or lungs. Sometimes, however, hemoptysis can be associated with more serious problems, such as lung cancer, pulmonary embolism, tuberculosis or an overdose of anticoagulants.

Hemoptysis is an unusual symptom of COVID-19. Less than 1% of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 have hemoptysis.
